Habits for a healthier, longer lifetime

Over the past 2 years, I have consciously built a series of habits that have had a really positive impact on my life.

Like many people, during my 30s and 40s I didn’t really notice how my lifestyle was harming my mental and physical health. I’m sure I was doing similar things in my 20s, but I was just able to absorb it better.

Now in my 50s, I realised that I had a choice to make, either continue down the slippery slope towards ill health and a shortened life or take...

Need honest feedback? Make certain that you've got somebody you trust.

As we enter 2021, I am looking forward to getting to know my new mentees better and really understand how I can best help them to achieve their goals and career ambitions.

Everybody is different and one size doesn't fit all. There isn't a playbook that you can handover for others to follow. It is critical to listen to their aspirations and adapt accordingly. Advice and guidance needs to be tailored not just to the individual, but also to the circumstances that we currently find ourselves in....

Thinking of getting a mentor? 6 individuals will get one for FREE

As the New Year approaches, it's a good time to not only reflect on the year that has passed, but also to set your goals and make some plans for the year ahead.

If you're career minded, then it's a good idea to set yourself some clear objectives on where you want to be in 12 months time. That might include who you work for, the role that you perform and the skills that you'd like to develop along the way.

Each step that you take is a building block that will get you ever closer to your...

Never give up. Never surrender.

The film buffs out there may recognise the title of this post from one of my favourite comedies, Galaxy Quest. And, while there hasn't been much to laugh about this year, there has been a need for many of us to evoke the spirit of the intrepid Galaxy Quest crew and be even more tenacious than usual.

The pandemic has impacted so many people as our plans and aspirations have mostly been put on hold. Jobs have been lost. Careers have stalled. Weddings have been cancelled. Loved ones have...

What has this year taught you?

This year has been tough on all of us. As I reflect on my own journey, I am incredibly grateful to the people who've helped me and I hope, in return, that I have in some way helped them too.

Every day gives us an opportunity to learn something new. It might be about ourselves, our colleagues, our employers or our environment. We each have the ability to acquire knowledge, develop skills and gain experience with every task that we complete and every goal that we achieve. Often, we're so busy...

Make sure you play to your strengths, even the ones you're unaware of

If asked, I think most of us could list at least a few strengths that we possess. But what about our hidden strengths, the ones that we’re unaware of? Isn’t it a good idea to also know what they are?

After all, research shows that, when we use our strengths, we’re not only happier, but we’re also more engaged at work and more likely to achieve our goals.

A good place to start is HIGH5, which through a simple free test will tell you what your 5 most developed...

Evolve your product to tap into a larger addressable market

Congratulations! Your new product is in the market, you have a growing customer base, people are talking about your product and they're actually paying you money to use it. Surely this is utopia?

However you choose to classify your customers at this stage, you're more than likely targeting a niche segment of innovators, early adopters, enthusiasts and visionaries who are always on the look out for, willing to try and even endorse new products. Unfortunately, while this group is critical...

Time for the ultimate test, will you customers pay for your product?

Over the last few posts, we've been on a journey to establish our new product in the market. From customer acquisition to activation to retention to referral. Now it's time for the acid test, the ability to generate sufficient revenue from your customers to grow and sustain your business.

All business planning is based on a set of hypotheses that need to be validated. Research that indicates customers will hand over hard earned cash for your product is just wishful thinking until the money...

Happy customers will help you to grow your business

With your recently acquired customers now returning on a frequent basis, there is an opportunity to ask them to recommend your product. You might even choose to reward them for their efforts.

Firstly, you need to make certain that your retained customers are having a great experience. There is no point, for example, asking somebody for a recommendation if they're in the process of making a complaint or cancelling an order.

If your customer is continuing to use your product and their...

Bring them back and keep adding value to their day

If your new customer had a great first experience then you've radically increased the likelihood that they'll be back for more. However, you're still competing for their attention and one visit alone is insufficient for somebody to develop any brand loyalty. Bringing people back within a month of their first visit is therefore critical to building momentum and growing your customer base.

Ideally, during your customer's first visit, you've been able to establish some way to continue the...
